Dose/Conc.(herb) : 200 mL grapefruit juice 30 minutes before and again together with their daily dose of methadone
Duration : 5 days
Type of interaction : Pharmacokinetics
Interaction with drug : Methadone
Dose/Conc.(drug) : methadone was given once per day and remained constant throughout the study (mean, 107+/-31 mg/d; range, 63-150 mg/d)
Remark : Grapefruit juice significantly reduced CYP3A activity as measured by the midazolam phenotyping test. It led to a modest in Cmax and AUCO-24 and a decrease in the apparent clearance for R-, S-, and R, S-methadone. No sign of overdosage was reported or noted during the study.
Note : Subjects: opioid-dependent patients undergoing methadone maintenance treatment. Grapefruit juice intake is not recommended during methadone maintenance treatment, in particular in patients initiating such a treatment.
