Remark : Result: Asarum heteropoides chloroform (CHCl3) extract + Doxorubicin had lD50 values on mdr1 gene-transfected mouse lymphoma cell line = 0.19 microgram/mL and fractional inhibitory index (FlX) +/-SEM = 0.33 +/- 0.09. Here, there was direct evidence that CHCl3 extract of A. heteropoides synergized the antiproliferative effect of doxorubicin (FlX < 0.50).
Note : They evaluated the P-gp-modulating effects of the Chinese herbal extracts and herbs on a mouse T-lymphoma cell line transfected with the human mdr1 cell line. The most effective resistance modifiers were found in MeOH extracts of Ligustrum lucidum, and Atractylodes macrocephala; Aconitum carmichaeli (Debx.) was ineffective. The most effective CHCl3 extracts were: Ligustrum lucidum, Aconitum carmichaeli, Atractylodes marcrocephala and Asarum heteropoides. The MDR-reversing activity of EtOAc extracts Aconitum carmichaeli and Atractylodes macrocephala were noteworthy. H2O extract of Asarum heteropoides was effective inhibitor of MDR, whereas Asparagus cochinchinensis, Ligustrum lucidum, Aconitum carmichaeli and Atractylodes macrocephala were ineffective. Of the four types of extracts studied, CHCl3 extracts demonstrated the highest P-gp-inhibitory effects on mouse lymphoma cells, blocking the function of P-gp.
