Neferine inhibits CYP1A2 activity only to a minor extent, and in this study, demonstrates a non-time-dependent increase in the inhibition of CYP1A2, meaning that Nef did not fulfil the criteria as a mechanism-based inhibitor of CYP1A2. Consequently, from this study, it can be assumed the Neferine displays a weak or negligible inhibiton of CYP1A2 and CYP2D6 in vitro.Note : Phenacetin, dextromethorphan and testosterone, respectively, were used as CYP1A2, CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 substrates, and their metabolites were determined by validated HPLC methodologies.
