[1] EFFECT OF GINKGO AND GINGER ON THE PHARMACOKINETICS AND PHARMACODYNAMICS OF WARFARIN IN HEALTHY SUBJECTS.
JIANG X,WILLIAMS KM,LIAUW WS,ET AL.
BR J CLIN PHARMACOL 2005 Vol.59(4),425-32  $19475 [Full]

Part Used : เหง้า
Activity : PLATELET AGGREGATION INHIBITION
Solvent/Active Compound : -
Type of experiment : human
Type of animal : -
Type of study : Open trial
N(Total) : 12
N(Treatment) : 12
Sex : Male
Age : 20-36 yrs
Route : Oral administration
Dose/Conc.(herb) : 3 tablets x 3 times daily
Duration : 1 week with at least 14-day washout
Type of interaction : Pharmacodynamics
Interaction with drug : Warfarin
Dose/Conc.(drug) : -
Result : Negative
Remark : The mean ratios of the AUCO-168 of INR were 0.93 (0.82-1.05) following treatment with ginkgo and 1.03 (0.90-1.15) for ginger treatment. These data suggest there is no significant effect of these herbs on warfarin pharmacodynamics. Neither ginkgo nor ginger alone affected baseline INR or ex vivo platelet aggregation in response to arachidonic acid.
Note : Each ginger tablet containing 0.4 g of ginger rhizome powder Each Gingko tablet equivalent to 2 g of Ginkgo biloba leaf (9.6 mg of ginkgo flavonglycosides, 2.4 mg of ginkgolides and bilobalide)

[2] SYNERGISTIC EFFECT OF GINGER AND NIFEDIPINE ON HUMAN PLATELET AGGREGATION: A STUDY IN HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS AND NORMAL VOLUNTEERS.

Part Used : เหง้า
Activity : PLATELET AGGREGATION INHIBITION
Solvent/Active Compound : -
Type of experiment : human
Type of animal : -
Type of study : Open trial
N(Total) : 20
N(Treatment) : 20
Sex : Both sex
Age : 25-60 yr
Route : Oral administration
Dose/Conc.(herb) : 1 g of ginger with 10 mg nifedipine, twice daily
Duration : 1 week
Type of interaction : Pharmacodynamics
Interaction with drug : Nifedipine
Dose/Conc.(drug) : -
Result : Positive
Remark : Phase I: the normal volunteers were administered both ginger and nifedipine in combination, it was observed that the higher percentage inhibition of platelet aggregation induced by collagen, ADP and epinephrine were 79.8%, 75.2% and 69.3%, resp. The results indicated that ginger could potentiate the anti-platelet aggregation of nifedipine.
Note : Thie study departed into 2 phases. Phase I: normal volunteer, Phase II: hypertensive patient (10) - All results were similar but higher in phase II of the study.

Result : Positive
Remark : Phase I: study in hypertensive patients showed that the percentage of inhibition of values with the three agonist was higher (64.2%, 63.8% and 61.1%, resp.) after the treatment with the combination of nifedipone and ginger. The results indicated that ginger could potentiate the anti-platelet aggregation of nifedipine.
