OSTEOARTHRITIS CARTILAGE 2000 Vol.8(1),9-12  $19701 [Full]

Part Used : เหง้า
Activity : DRUG INTERACTION
Solvent/Active Compound : Ginger extract (selected Chinese ginger)
Type of experiment : human
Type of animal : -
Type of study : Double-blind trial
N(Total) : 56
N(Treatment) : -
Sex : Both sex
Age : 66 yrs (mean) (24-87 yrs)
Route : Oral administration
Dose/Conc.(herb) : 170 mg ginger extract tid
Duration : 3 wks
Type of interaction : Non-specified
Interaction with drug : Ibuprofen*/Para-isobutylhydratropic acid
Dose/Conc.(drug) : 400 mg. tid (maximum 3 g. daily)
Result : Negative
Remark : A ranking of efficacy of the three treatment periods: lbuprofen>ginger extract>placebo was found for visual analogue scale of pain. In the cross-over study, no significant difference between placebo and ginger extract could be demonstrated while explorative tests of differences in the first treatment period showed a better effect of both Ibuprofen and ginger extract than placebo.
Note : Ginger extract was compared to placebo and lbuprofen in patients with osteoarthritis of the hip or knee in a controlled, double blind, double dummy, cross-over study with a wash-out period of one week followed by three treatment periods in a randomized sequence, each of three weeks duration.
