[1] ISOBOLOGRAPHICALLY ADDITIVE ANTICONVULSANT ACTIVITY BETWEEN CENTELLA ASIATICA AND SOME ANTIEPILEPTIC DRUGS.

Interaction with drug : Phenytoin*/Diphenylhydantoin/DPH
Dose/Conc.(drug) : -
Result : Positive
Remark : A combination of Centalla asiatica (CA) extract with antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) resulted in a reduction in the ED50 of CA extract and concomitant AEDS. The ED50 of intraperitoneally given phyenytoin, valproate and gabapentin, were found to be 13, 14, and 310 mg/kg BW, respectively, when given alone, whereas the corresponding values in the presence of CA extract were 5, 29 and 79 mg/kg BW.

[2] PHARMACOLOGICAL INTERACTION OF CENTELLA ASIATICA AND BACOPA MONNIERI WITH ANTIEPILEPTIC DRUGS - AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY IN RATS.
SUDHA S,BINDU R,JOYCE G,ET AL.
JOURNAL OF NATURAL REMEDIES 2005 Vol.5(1),63-9  360843 [Abstract]

Part Used : ใบ
Activity : DRUG INTERACTION
Solvent/Active Compound : -
Type of experiment : in vivo
Type of animal : rat
Type of study : -
N(Total) : -
N(Treatment) : -
Sex : -
Age : -
Route : Oral administration
Dose/Conc.(herb) : 500 mg/kg
Duration : The anticonvulsant activity was assessed by the classical Maximal Electro Shock (MES) test at 1, 3, 6 and 24 h after drug administration.
Type of interaction : Pharmacodynamics
Interaction with drug : Phenytoin*/Diphenylhydantoin/DPH
Dose/Conc.(drug) : -
Result : Equivocal
Remark : Results: When Centella asiatica (CA) was combined with phenytoin, though seizure protection was seen, this effect was not statistically significant. When CA was combined with phenobarbitone, the protective activity of phenobarbitone declined from 50% to 0% (p < 0.05) at 3 h. When CA was combined with carbamazepine, significant seizure protection was seen only at 1 and 3 h (p < 0.05).
