คำตอบ : พบรายงานการวิจัยว่าทั้งสารสกัดเอทานอล 95% จากเปลือกมังคุดและสาร α-mangostin ที่แยกได้จากสารสกัดจากเปลือกมังคุด มีฤทธิ์ยับยั้งเชื้อ Staphylococcus aureus (1-2) ซึ่งโดยปกติแล้วสารสกัดที่สกัดได้จะต้องมีการกำจัดตัวทำลายออกให้หมดก่อนนำไปทดสอบฤทธิ์ ดังนั้นฤทธิ์ยับยั้งเชื้อ S. aureus จึงเป็นฤทธิ์ของสารที่จากเปลือกมังคุด โดยมี α-mangostin เป็นสารสำคัญในการออกฤทธิ์
